On 23 July, the project marked the launch of the “Outstanding Women of Solomon Islands” initiative, focusing on the identification and acknowledgement of women leaders in small communities.
The aim of the initiative is to draw out the women who are most valued and respected in their communities because of their actions, behaviour or just general attitude. A voting will be conducted to choose amongst the nominated women in each province. The voting will be scheduled to coincide with a provincial assembly session to facilitate the participation of provincial assembly members. This selection will be done inclusively by all groups in the community including men, people with disabilities, young people, women, senior citizens, church leaders, chiefs, provincial government ward members etc.
The project will be partnering with the Provincial Council of Women (PCW) in all the provinces in Solomon Islands including Honiara City Council.
